Coffeetech and GVS. “The perfect blend”
Drink equipment service giant GVS and leading espresso and premium coffee equipment maintenance specialist - Coffeetech, are joining forces, in a move described by Coffeetech’s MD Duncan Gaffney as “highly strategic”.
Founded by Deryck and Duncan Gaffney in 1992, Coffeetech has grown to be a major player in the supply and maintenance of espresso machines to the food service sector. It boasts a list of blue-chip clients including Gondola Holdings (owners of Pizza Express, Zizi, Ask), Co-Op, BB’s, Coffee Republic, Slug and Lettuce and numerous others high street names.
‘The deal gives us a major leg up in terms of scale’, Duncan said. ‘The synergies between us are exceptional and combining the technical infrastructure of two highly complementary operations creates something of a ‘dream team’ for existing and new customers alike. For starters, the enlarged business will employ more field based technicians than any other UK supplier - from day one. This alone is certain to deliver significant competitive advantages going forward.’
Coming on the back of its own prestigious national contracts with major players such as GSK and Tesco, GVS M.D Debbie Mann believes that the deal with Coffeetech will enhance the prospects of business with high volume, top end coffee retailers and operators.
‘In the past GVS has been seen as a company in the vending business’ she said. ‘With our pre-eminence in the vending industry this perception is understandable but not really a fair reflection of what we actually do. Of course with the additional resources of one of the country’s leading espresso specialists there can be no doubt in anybody’s mind that our enlarged business now possesses the expertise as well as the capacity to service the needs of the those Customers for whom quality is paramount.’
Duncan said ‘this move is very exciting for all concerned but it’s important to assure existing Coffeetech customers that it’s business as usual. Both Deryck and I will be joining the GVS board; in fact we’ll be pulling out all the stops to ensure that the combined business continues to develop into the most dynamic, customer responsive service organisation in the UK and R.o.I. markets.

Coffeetech - Company Overview
Starting life in the late '80s, Coffeetech initially operated as an espresso machine engineering business based in London. Huge customer demand soon drove the company towards the sales of equipment, and to meet this requirement the company negotiated UK distribution rights for Nuova Simonelli, Saeco and ECM espresso machines. Initially selling only direct to caterers and coffee shops, Coffeetech¡¯s national engineering support soon came to the attention of the coffee roasters and coffee supply trade and the company¡¯s activities became more focused on wholesaling to the coffee trade. This side of its activities now accounts for 90% of the company¡¯s business.
Through its nationwide team of support technicians, Coffeetech supports some 60 dealers and 20 master distributors with a range of specialist espresso, cappuccino and latte coffee equipment. Now the company not only imports Nuova Simonelli and ECM brands but also distributes Macco, De Jong DUKE and Solis brands and, selling to many of the biggest names in the business, provides the widest range of espresso coffee systems available in the UK market.
With household espresso machines ranging in price from a few hundred pounds to powerful professional systems costing several thousand pounds, Coffeetech truly is a one stop shop for all espresso machine requirements.
